OhNoo Studio to Release Tormentum II on July 23, 2026

OhNoo Studio returns to the Tormentum series eleven years after Tormentum: Dark Sorrow. Tormentum II launches on July 23, 2026.

The game is set in a future transformed by technology, not always for the better. David is building a simulation whose inhabitants are as intelligent as humans. Every night, he dreams of a mysterious locked chest and hears a woman's voice calling to him. When an anonymous seller offers him a mysterious coprocessor, elements of the dream begin to appear in his waking life. After installing the new hardware, David wakes up in a prison on an island in the middle of the sea. He is inside the world he created. With little memory of how he got there, he soon discovers that his creation has layers he never designed and a will he cannot control. Its inhabitants speak of gods: beings who arrive from distant places and vanish just as suddenly.

“When we started work on Tormentum II, the kind of artificial intelligence we imagined still felt like science fiction. Eight years later, AI is part of everyday life. The story now feels closer to reality than we ever expected.”

Łukasz Rutkowski, co-founder of OhNoo Studio

Tormentum II was announced in October 2018 and has been in development for nearly eight years. Its core development team consists of Piotr Ruszkowski and Łukasz Rutkowski, who also created the original Tormentum: Dark Sorrow. The first game's Steam reviews remain more than 90% positive. Tormentum II tells a standalone story, so no knowledge of the original is required, although returning players will recognize the series' atmosphere and approach to point-and-click gameplay.

Key features

  • 200 hand-drawn scenes, plus dedicated close-ups that bring the total to nearly 500 individual background images, roughly three times as many as in the original game.
  • 8–12 hours of gameplay, depending on the player's pace.
  • Morally ambiguous choices that shape the fates of the characters David meets and lead to multiple endings.
  • A surreal world inspired by the art of H. R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński.
  • An atmospheric soundtrack with bursts of heavier, metal-influenced music.
  • A standalone story that requires no knowledge of the first game.
  • Seven languages at launch: English, Polish, French, Italian, German, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian. Additional languages, including Spanish and Turkish, are in development.

Visual roots

Inspirations

Artists and games that helped shape the visual language and dark atmosphere of Tormentum II.

Untitled 1973 painting by Zdzisław Beksiński, commonly known as Crawling Death, showing a bandaged figure crawling through a red wasteland
Untitled, 1973 (commonly known as Crawling Death / Pełzająca śmierć), Zdzisław Beksiński. The popular title is unofficial. Source and context.

Zdzisław Beksiński

Zdzisław Beksiński (1929–2005) was a Polish painter, photographer and sculptor. He often placed distorted or decaying figures in vast, silent landscapes. His paintings can be frightening and unexpectedly tender. Tormentum II draws on that mixture of decay, isolation and beauty.

H. R. Giger

H. R. Giger (1940–2014) was a Swiss artist who fused anatomy and machinery in biomechanical worlds that helped define the look of Alien. His influence appears in the game's living architecture, where metal and bone seem to grow into each other.

Dark Seed and Dark Seed II

The two Dark Seed games showed us how naturally a point-and-click adventure could deliver genuine horror. Their parallel worlds, dream logic and Giger-influenced imagery made the familiar feel diseased and alien. Long before Tormentum, they proved that atmosphere itself could become part of the puzzle.

Dark Souls

Dark Souls arrived in 2011, the year OhNoo Studio began. We were drawn to its ruined landscapes, immense silhouettes and the way it lets players uncover the story for themselves. Its mixture of beauty and decay felt close to the worlds we wanted to make.

We acknowledge the work of Beksiński and Giger, together with Dark Seed and Dark Souls, as artistic influences. No affiliation or endorsement is implied.

About the studio

OhNoo Studio

Łukasz Rutkowski, Grzegorz Markowski and Piotr Ruszkowski founded OhNoo Studio in 2011. Their first goal was to make the most interactive children's storybook they could. That project became Amelia and Terror of the Night, released in 2012 with hand-drawn art, narration, mini-games and hundreds of tiny animations hidden throughout its scenes.

Tormentum: Dark Sorrow grew from a different dream: to make a complete game of our own, from beginning to end. Its world existed before production began. Piotr had spent nearly two years painting it as a personal art project before it became clear that those images needed to become a game. Released in 2015, Tormentum turned our love of dark surrealism into a point-and-click adventure and began the series we continue today.

TSIOQUE followed in 2018 and remains our largest animation project. It features hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation throughout, and at its peak 12 people were working on the game. We paired it with voice acting and an original score by Edward Harrison and Elle Kharitou. The game was created with animator Alek Wasilewski and the team at Smile.

Today we are returning to the world of Tormentum. The core team behind Tormentum II is Piotr Ruszkowski and Łukasz Rutkowski. We remain independent, draw our worlds by hand and make the strange games we want to play ourselves.
